Cats

Mystery, has been with me for about 4 years now, and she keeps me company all the time. Even when writing. (As you can see to the left here.) I’ve always been more of a Dog person, but I live in an apartment. Plus, when I agreed to watch Mystery for a friend four years ago, I didn’t know it would be forever. But I’m okay with that. Mystery and I have become friends, and I love her. She is always with me, and she just keeps me company so I don’t get lonely. Mostly.

And then recently I got sucked in adopted a new one. Scarlet.

So I was procrastinating yesterday, and found a blog post about a stressed cat that had me laughing, and reading ALL of the comments, because well, I have two cats now – and one of them is what my brother calls ‘a monster‘ because she’s so big. She’s not fat though, honestly, she is Big. As in , when I pick her up and hold her beneath her front arms to dangle her – I like to see the cat hang – her body is the length of my legs. If she stand on her back legs and tries to get my attention, she can reach my waist with her claw- paws. That would be Mystery, she’s big.

And to make her seem even bigger, there’s dainty Scarlet. Who is tough and scrappy, but also beautiful (despite missing half an ear). Scarlet is built small and fast, and she zooms all over the place, and is a maniac with chasing the feather toy and the laser printer. I figure it’s becasue she’s younger than Mystery, but also becasue she was a stray for a while.

The difference also becomes apparent when I’m cooking. Mystery doesn’t always want what I eat. She isn’t interested in the pre-cooked chicken breast meat I buy sometimes for stir-fry’s or salads, but Scarlet, she’s a garbage guts. She’ll eat anything she can get her teeth on. I figure again, left over habit from being stray. And as much as I’m feeding this cat, she’s not growing. She’s still small, dainty and fast.

Anyway. I worry about Mystery thinking I’ve replaced her, so I shower affection on her…and after reading this blog post yesterday, I’ll KEEP showering affection on her. I do not want a pissed off/ stressed Mystery Monster pee-ing on my leg. (GO read that post, you won’t regret it!)

PS: <----- This look right here is the one I get when trying to interest Mystery in playing with the feather thing. She liked it at first, but then she got smart. Same with the laser pointer. She chased it for a week, then realized she's never gonna catch it. Now she just looks at me, watches Scarlet go nuts, and walks away.

  1. Thanks Jorrie. I tell ya, one minute I think Mystery and Scarlet are gonna kill each other, then I look up and they’re slipping on the sofa next to each other. Not touching, no cuddling, but it gives me hope that they’re on the same sofa. The point being when they’re side by side they look so cute because one is solid grey, and the other is grey and white.

Jaye, aren’t they cool? LOL She hates me taking pics of her.

Sasha, it sounds like you know your cats so well and your affection for them really shows. I don’t have pets but I think in the nature of cats is when they like you, then they really do like you – does that make sense πŸ˜€

Saw that you had a contest listed on Access Romance to tell everyone what I think to be entered. Not sure what you are talking about WHAT I THINK. So I am posting here. Cats are great; however, you said that you always wanted a dog. A great dog for an apartment is a MALTESE. Needs very little exercise.

  4. Awwwwwwwww FWIW my girl is small too. She NEVER talks and usually doesn’t want to be touched. Ham is about as big as Mystery is. We can’t leave glasses of water around–all three of them will go after them. *sigh*
