I’m Back!
My 5 day trip to New York was Fantastic. I got to meet up with Cindy and her lovely assistant Leis from Berkley. We had lunch and I think I had the best salad ever. (Yes, for that one meal I managed to stick with my Slim Camp goals…if you don’t count the glass of beer. *blush*)
Then they took me back to the Penguin building and showed me a bit of the offices. Let me just say they have a lot of paper around at all times. LOL
And I got to meet John Scognamiglio, my editor at Kensington, for the first time ever!! (I’ve met Cindy briefly at conferences before. ) I almost brought my camera to snap pictures but I worried I would really look too much like a geek. Instead, I just sat across form him and talked his ear off. *blush* I met his charming assistant, Peter and we had a few laughs. John gave me the tour and I got to meet a bunch of people. The Kensington offices had a wonderful vibe. Warm and welcoming, and I’m so very glad I got a chance to visit them.
More on the business side of things, I went to a couple of workshops and panels, but sadly didn’t learn anything I didn’t really already know. Okay, so I learned somethings I might not want to admit to myself, but I did know them! I’m not gonna bore y’all with those details. Instead, I’m going to talk about NEW YORK.
Yep, I loved the city. I felt very at home. I took the subway a few times, (and only got on the wrong train once!) Our hotel was directly across the street from Madison Square Garden so that was super cool. There were afew pubs, restaurants, and pletny of cafe’s and such around us. Even a Borders bookstore. *grin*. Walking down the street, you could spot the Empire State Building amongst the other skyscrapers. We ate diner out a few times, but some of the best fun I had was when a few of us gathered back in our hotel room and ordered pizza for delivery. There was a deli next to the hotel that had a beer sales, so we had some drinks and pizza, and good company.
I spent some time in Times Square with Delilah Devlin and Myla Jackson. We ate hotdogs from the vendor, and got cheesecake from Juniors. They bought tickets for a show, (But I didn’t really have any interest in it.) We did a bit of purse hunting, also with the street guys. Delilah and Myla found some nice ones. I, of course, found some tacky ones for my mom. LOL We then had hotdogs from Nathan’s, cuz I was told I had to try them…and it was good. So were the cheese and bacon fires. Yum!
Myla, Delilah and Sylvia went to the afternoon show and I sat in the room and did some writing. Yep, I’m still working on Primal Male. I love Drake. :inlove:
I can’t retell specifics, cuz honestly, it’s all sort of blending. But I had a great time, and when Reader Shawna showed up to have dinner with us on our last night in town, it capped the week of in an amazing way.
To sum it up ~ I ate a lot, I drank a bit… I saw the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, Times Square, and The Statue of Liberty! Yes, seeing it from the plane does count! People think I’m weird when I say I have no urge what-so-ever to see it any closer than that, but honestly, I’m more interested in the vibe of the city, and just being there than the things I see on TV all the time. *shrug*
I do have some pictures, and I’ll post them soon. 🙂
In the meantime, tell me…How was your weekend?
PS: If you want to see a pic, and read a bit about the conference, check out Barbara Vey’s Publisher’s Weekly Blog!
Not as exciting as yours! 😆 Thanks for sharing your fun, it sounds like you had a super time. Looking fwd to the pics.
Sasha…Glad to have you back, and so glad you had a great trip!! Sounds like you had a blast…I can’t wait to see the pics!! LOL, my week was pretty much same ‘ole, same ‘ole…but I did go see Hillary this weekend. But I think I’d have rather been in NY eating cheese fries and PURSE shopping!! I’m such a puse a holic!! He/he. I have a terrilbe Coach obsession…it’s not normal. Glad you’re getting some writing done, and still having fun!!
Boy, it sounds like you were able to get a lot accomplished on the business side, but even more importantly-had fun in the city that never sleeps! Did you get to stay out late to check out the sights? Did you get a ton of souvenirs? When I visited NY, seemed like I had major insomnia and loved every minute of it.(lol) Can’t believe you took the wrong subway just once! I’ve been to NY 3 ttimes and still can’t get it straight! (lol) There is soooo much to see! It’s cool that you were able to hang out with a reader and have even more fun to cap off the visit. We’re all looking forward to the pictures and really glad you had a good time. Back to work, huh?
Nice to read that you had a wonderful trip!
I’m planning a trip to the big apple coming January with hubby and I can’t wait!
It will be my very first trip to the States and I’m sure it won’t be the last!
good luck with the writing and have fun with Drake :great:
Oops! This doesn’t really go in this blog, but had to ask if you had any time at all to see the finale of Dance Crew since you were here in the states? If you haven’t seen it, I won’t ruin it, but I was pretty sure they’d win. Those kids won $100,000 and their lives will never be the same. I was happy for them. Hey they’re looking for new crews. Do you plan on trying out? (lol) Me, I’ll be content curled up on the couch with a latte and watching everyone else sweat!
Glad you had such an amazing time. Can’t wait to see you in two weeks!!!! :sporty:
Nice preemptive strike! I will stand by my “doesn’t count if you see if from the plane” statement. I had a great time with all of you at dinner! When do you ever get the chance to meet and talk with so many authors you like? You are definitely a pickle and fit right into the City. I am calling you an honorary NYer. Come visit any time you like!! Here’s to the next time we get together, in my hometown or yours!!!
Oops, that’s Shawna
you can send some of your vacation or room photos to

thanks

Aw I’m totally jealous but I’m glad you had a good time!!!
Sounds like a fabulous time. Welcome back!
Saskia, I had a wonderful time!
Melissa, I’m not normally a big shopper, but my mom wanted me to get her a purse, and I tend to be addicted to street vendors. 😳
RO, I think I only got on the wrong train once because I’m not exactly shy. LOL I hate reading maps, but I can ask pretty much anyone for directions. LOL
Pearl, Good luck with your planning. I highly recommend the visit. I’m sure you’ll have a great time!
Ro, Yes, I saw the finale. I was pretty sure Jabba would win. But I was glad to see Status Quo in the final two. It worked out well I think, the best “street style” crew, and the best overall crew. :great:
Beth, I’m getting so excited for RT!:cowgirl:
Shawna, I’m an Honorary NY’er? YAY! Thank You! I had a great time, and will be back!
Amie, It was a complete blast!
Hi Helen Kay! Will you be at RT?
I wish I could have been in NYC! I loved it the one time I was there. 🙂 I was there a week and didn’t have nearly enough time to see what I wanted to see LOL I’ll have to go back another time.
I’m glad you had a good time 🙂
Thanks Erin. I agree, a week isn’t near enough to truly see the city.
Yay, Sasha, sounds like you had an awesome time.
I wish I was gonna be at RT in 2 weeks 🙁
I’ll be at RT and RWA. Decided to hit them both again this year. We’ll see if that’s a mistake…
Totally enjoyed getting to know you better Sasha! And you’re right, the best time was eating pizza with friends. Although seeing Curtains on Broadway with David Hyde Pierce was laugh-worthy! The trip was fabulous!
I enjoyed your guest bloggers and their blurbs but am so pleased you are home! :jump:
