Horny, or just imaginative?

I was surfing around the internet, procrastinating, and found this on a members site I visit sometimes.:)

Erotica Writers
Horny because they write, or write because they’re horny?
A Writer needs three things, experience, observation and imagination, any two of which, at times any one of which, can supply the lack of the others. —William Faulkner

We all write, and read, erotica. We all enjoy it. We all have vivid, and active imaginations. So, does this make us hornier than ‘normal’ people? And if we are hornier, are we hornier because we write, or do we write BECAUSE we are hornier?   —Jim

My opinion on the subject ‘Are erotica writers hornier than most people?’ Nope, we are just more open about it. We may also be more aware of the sexual and sensual possabilities of some situations, but that doesn’t make us hormier, just… more aware.:P
It’s a funny thing to read because sometimes I have to deal with men that think just because I write erotica that I’m constantly looking to get laid. I admit it doesn’t help that I’m a bartender, and I love to flirt. But I thought it became common knowledge years ago that flirting is just that, flirting. (And it really helps boost my tips 😉 )

I think it takes a certain personality to be open enough to express, and to share with anyone that cares to read, our thoughts and fantasies, and yes, even sometimes our experiences. I’ve used personal experience, fantasy and imagination in my writings. Do I get turned on when I write an erotic scene? Sometimes. And sometimes I’ll write because I’m horny and single. To me, it’s a healthier way to deal with it that going out to a bar and picking someone up.

What do you’all think? Are erotica, or even erotic romance writers hornier than others??

  1. I don’t think you have to be horney at all to write erotica. I think experience (Not jsut with your self), and a passion for what you feel. Yea, sometimes it helps to be horney, puts you in the mood, and makes you write what you would like to be doing instead of being infront of a computer. And other times writting will make you horney. But if you are like me and don’t have a man readily handy. Then you put down what you wish you could do it there was a man at your beck n call.

I also agree with you that you have to know your body, be aware of it, and know what true pleasure is. ANd not be afriad to talk about it. Gril-friends talk about different possitions, toys, men (The dream kind). What is wrong with talking about with a thousand girlfriends. You might even learn something. But no I don’t think Erotic writters are always horney. It helps but it’s not needed.

:hehe: Not hornier (hate that word) just less inhibitated. It is easier to write about then talk about. I wrote a few short stories for guys I met online, wasn’t in the mood for cyber sex so I sent them something to help them help themselves. 😀

I wrote my first sex scene as a 19-year-old virgin, and my mother didn’t really believe that I wasn’t writing from experience–and another much older married woman declared that it made her ovaries explode! *ggg* In a good way.

You experience isn’t necessary. Imagination is always helpful, though. *g*
