Despite feeling completely lethargic and lackluster yesterday because of a sugar overdose and a sore throat…I have to say I felt like a bit of a stud.
Why? Because I recieved emails from 3 people that bought GYPSY HEART that have never read an eBook before.
So what if they’re my friends? It’s 3 more people that are exposed to this new world. A world that includes MORE than just erotica and erotica romance books. Fictionwise has classics like Anne of Green Gables and Jane Eyre in eBook formatt, as well as bestsellers like The De Vinci Code. It IS a whole new world.
I have a lot of friends and customers in the pub I work at that have told me, “Let me know when your book is out…I’lll by it.” In an effort to support me. Yet, over half of them never knew what an eBook was. Shit, half of them don’t even own computers. Not that it matters, when I explained what an eBook was to them, they just kinda shrugged it off. I doubt any of them will buy it. And honestly. . . that’s their loss. Because not only are they missing out on my stories, but on some other fantastic ones out there. As Kelly from Fresh Fiction has recently discovered.
In her arcticle eBooks. A passing craze or the wave of the future?she says:
“I don’t think that eBooks will ever entirely replace paper books on the market but I do see the electronic side of publishing to keep growing and adding more and more unique storylines to the market. I also see my purchases of mass market to slowly decline, though it will never stop, whereas my eBook purchases will grow and grow as I find more authors I enjoy, quicker release dates, vibrant storylines that expand the market in ways I can only imagine at present.”
Here’s to hoping that people will stop looking down on or dismissing formatts/categories/genres, and start looking at the stories!
So cool on the emails! Congrats on helping people discover a new venue of publishing and books. WTG!! And I love Fresh Fiction.
:hehe: I am on Chapter 5 and enjoying it so far…I have been printing it out as I go because I only have a desk top, I need to get an ebook reader so I can take it where the desk top can’t go. And seeing I will have it on paper, hubby can read it too. 😎

Exactly! The story is the key, not the format. And more and more readers are getting turned on to e-books all the time. It’s awesome!
Personally, I believe that one day, (think Star Trek) that all written communication will be electronic. This is waaaaaaay in the future, but I see it happening. But I also see the rise in popularity of e-books when more people become aware of them and of the quality and variety of stories that often can’t be found in print books.
Great topic!
I call those people book snobs, Sasha. And it’s really their loss because they don’t know what they’re missing. Just like people who don’t read anything except Pulizer Prize ‘lit-ri-chuuuuuhhhh’ (said with a haughty, self-important frown)
They suck!! And I think you’re a fantastic writer! So fug them!
Teresa~ FF is a fun site, full of info if you take the time to look around!
Dianna~ Yay! Chapter 5!! I hope hubby enjoys it too! You’ll have to let me know what he thinks.
Thanks for saying I’m a fantastic writer, Trace! 🙂
As for the eBooks….I don’t think everyone is snobs, some are for sure, and it’s their loss. But there are also people, whose daily lives have very little to do with computers, that aren’t really aware of all that’s out there.
But like Chey said, computers, and everything electronic is the future. So sooner or later, they’ll have to come around. 😉
