Bon Apetit

OK, I need opinions on this story. I’ve been working on it for a while, and I’m not quite sure if it’s interesting or not (I’ve re-read it so manytimes I’m cross-eyed.) …so read this little bit, and tell me if I’ve hooked your interest. By the way, this is the START of the story…not the sex part..yet. 😉

Lacey walked the hallway, found the kitchen and set her armload on the counter top. Turning to face Matt, she laughed at the playful puppy dog expression on his handsome face. “˜Please?’
She ignored the twinge of excitement in the pit of her belly at the thought of the night she had planned, and gave him a practiced thoughtful look.
“˜I bet not many people can resist when you look at them like that and say please real pretty can they?’
“˜Can you?’
“˜I can,’ she said firmly. “˜And I will.”
The dubious expression on his face gave her a small thrill. He was so cocky and arrogant that a new idea sparked in the back of her mind.
“Just because you’re the host doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the party too.” She gave him an obvious once over and winked at him before brushing past him on her way back to the catering van parked outside. “And I plan for you to make tonight a very memorable night for you all.”
Planning a bachelor party was something Lacey’d never done before, but she’d been trying to get her catering company off the ground for a couple of months now, and she figured this might prove to be just the edge she needed to make her business stand out from the others. When Rebecca had mentioned her brother complaining about how he’d promised his friend’s fiancée no strippers or dancers, that he’d handle the bachelor party “in a classy way”. She’d been to intrigued to keep quiet.
Hell, she’d been intrigued by everything about Matt from the moment she’d walked into Rebecca’s apartment three years earlier and seen his picture hanging on the wall. But friends didn’t ask to be set up with friend’s brothers, so she’d let well enough alone.
The party idea was opening that long closed door though, and Lacey couldn’t help but feel the seductive pull of lust tugging at her insides as they made a couple of more trips from the van to the kitchen, bantering the whole time. She was a bit surprised at how comfortable she felt around him, even with her head full of business anxiety and half-baked seduction plans.
Well, comfortable in a business sense. But she was getting more and more uncomfortable in a personal sense the longer he was in her presence.
He was one sexy man, but he knew it. He knew just how to flirt with his eyes, and how to use his deep voice so that shivers danced down her spine and images of slow sensuous love making filled her head. But his confidence bordered on arrogance and she soon found herself battling the urge to try and master him.
This is business, She told herself. Pleasure will come after . . . if he can handle it.
When the van was empty and Matt offered to park it at the side of the house for her, she gladly handed over her keys and wandered through house forcing herself to focus on the business of the party.
The set up was a good one. Perfect for what she had in mind. She was standing in the patio doorway, gazing at the fenced in yard when Matt strolled back into kitchen.
“Dinner can be served inside or out, which would you prefer?” Without looking she knew he was directly behind her. It was as if a force field of energy surrounded him and when he was inches away from her, her body recognized his.
“Whatever works best for what you have planned,” he said, his voice deeper than before.
His hands settled on her shoulders and he shifted closer behind her. Lacey let her eyes slide closed and enjoyed the heat of his touch, and the knowledge that he was coming on to her, very subtly, but the feel of him pressed lightly against her backside for a brief moment, his breath tickling the tiny hairs on the back of her neck, were all seduction techniques.
Very practiced ones.
“Is it usually so easy for you to seduce women?”
He stiffened for a brief moment then a relaxed chuckle tumbled from his lips. “Honestly?” he said. “Yes, it is.”
Lacey turned away from the back yard and gave him a small smile. “Then I guess it’s time for a change, yes?”
The skeptical rise of his eyebrows gave her a small thrill. He was so cocky and arrogant, seducing him was going to be so much fun.

  1. What a great concept – the whole catering a bachelor party thing…it definitely hooked me.:)

The *only* (minor)thing that pulled me out was when you talked about our hero being cocky/arrogant (which, of course, I like) but it just didn’t jibe with the whole puppy dog eyes/face in the opening, since you have him as all sexy bad boy the rest of the way through…does that make sense? 🙂 I think making him arrogant-ish right away will keep with the character you’ve set him up to be. 😀

I am thinking about writng some projects myself to see if I can be creative and have impact upon others. I have substantial writing experience in Corporate America and I edit in ways that could be crushing for the writer. Your intro seems a bit verbose hence I would be making your teeth clench a bit. I also know about a bar tender’s life and the world you must work with. You are 35 and good looking but your picture shows your barriers. Break them down while you are writing. Please accept my most sincere wish for your success as a writer. Best, Rick F. P. S. I noticed you metioned your age. I am 59. No drinking or smoking but thankful for my circumstances. Maybe I can write some and annoy you in the peocess (editing). Good Luck
