The Message

My Horoscope:
“Today’s stern message: your frustrations and lack of progress can be blamed on one person and one person alone: you. Once you can accept that this is why you are here, you will be further along on the way to resolving these setbacks. “

Okay, I get it. And yes, I believe it. It’s time to stop dilly-dallying and glue my ass to the chair. I have a story due, and it won’t write itself, as much as I’d like.

And sadly, as much as I’d hoped to find a balance with this writing and fitness thing, it ain’t working. So for now, the writing is first priority. I also think that I’m going to give up on this “normal” day time life.

You see, lately, for about two weeks now. I’ve been actually waking up around around 8 or 9 am. and going to bed before 2. This is very unusal for me…and it took a a while to get into the habit. However. I’m not as productive during the day as I can be when I stay up all night and sleep all day. So, I think I’ll go back to my old ways. Some people are just natural night owls and I think I’m one of them.

WHat about you? When does your brain, or you, function better?

When does my brain function better? Any time I have QUIET in which to write.

That seems to be a commodoty in short supply. In the last half hour, i have located a missing pencil sharpener, designed a monument to my husband’s ex wife’s mother… and it’s acceptable for the 9 y/o to take to school… well the list goes on. Quiet… or something like it.

Yes, Sasha, sit your but down and WRITE girl! 🙂

I love ya, you know. So leave the Oreos at the store. Carrots. eat carrots…

  2. I’m my most creative in late afternoon…

That is also when my sex drive is high. It’s always been like that for me..

Mid afternoon, I want to fuck…so I guess it just works that I want to write about fucking at the same time!!!! LOL

  3. Ya know Sasha, I used to be a night owl too – back when I was young and could go on minimal sleep. Then, when I began teaching and going to the gym at 5am, I had to write earlier in the day. Now? Now I can write anywhere, anytime. In fact, the muse has been busting my ass to make a start on something new – so much so, I’ve reverted to writing notes on paper with a pen in between classes  Tell me I want to stop for a bunch of mouthy kids with attention spans the size of a gnat?

Anytime, anywhere. Just gimme pen, paper or the laptop and I’m good to go 😛

    (PS Sasha, I sold :D)

  4. Sasha, I too am constantly trying to find a balance in my life with work, family, exercise, etc….It’s tough.
I’m a moring person. I get my best work done then. My brain is fried come evening and all I want to do is veg in front of the tv.

Cathryn! You have a day job right? See I think that’s what "trains" us. I’ve worked nights for so long that it’s what I’m used to. I admit for a while I did try to wrok day shifts so I coudl write at night because I thought I was more awake at night…and it killed me. ALl I wanted to do was watch tv as well.

Tess~ Tess ~ It sucks when you know you’re the only one to blame doesn;t it?

Let’s work on it together. Progress report due next week!:P

  6. When I first wake up around 5 or 6am, I always have tons of great ideas spinning through my mind. Entire stories or novels flow effortlessly through my head as I lie there. But I resist actually getting up because it’s so cozy in bed and I have Dan in there with me too, of course.

So don’t like leaving Dan in bed like that.

Soo…by the time we both actually get up and get breakfast on and start my day, by the time I sit down to write out all those beautifully perfect vignettes, it’s not flowing anymore. Sucketh.

I *have* forced myself to get up at 5am to type out at least an outline, then go back to bed. But that takes determination and I just don’t have it much of the time.

Dan’s a total night owl, btw, so I understand about the whole rhythm thing.

  7. For some reason, I write best from noon until about seven. I used to write in the evenings (and sometimes still do when I have a deadline), but mostly it’s in the afternoon.

    You can finish this book.

Brain functioning? Depends on what you want. I’m an early riser, really productive at work during the day. But I prefer to go to school at night, and my creativity usually hits hardest when I’m just.. about… to …. nod … off to… sleep… THEN the muse starts whispering in my ear until I drag my ass out of bed & WRITE IT DOWN. Egads. When I’m working a story, I’m sleep deprived. What can I say? 😉

  9. Hmmmm… brain function? Oh, hell, I don’t know. Probably like JJ, when it’s quiet. I love weekend afternoons when everyone is off doing stuff and I’m alone. :satisfied:
I know you can write this book and meet your deadline. Faith my friend!
So, night owl, my spirit sister, your morning dove is sending you brain waves of good writing and happy pop drinking. 🙂

Brain function – what’s that? One of the things that happen when you are a caretaker of an Alzheimer’s patient is you burn brain cells. So my brain function time is limited. Anytime between 9:00 a.m. and noon and then between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00. I sleep the rest of the time 😀
