ANIMAL INSTINCTS is the new Gena Showalter releases, and I just finished reading it. I have to say. I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT.
There’s not many people out there that can do first person POV very well. It’s hard, I personally love it. When done well, it’s unbeatable.
And that’s what I think of this book. Gena’s voice is strong and vibrant, more so than any of her other books that I’ve read. I could almost hear her. Animal Instincts is a wonderfully sexy love story wrapped up in light, sarcastic and intelligent humor. It’s a Keeper!
The heroine, Naomi, is desperatly trying to gain control of her life after divorcing a cheating husband. With the help of her sidekick cousins. The image of Royce, the a wonderfully sexy alpha hero, is extremely clear in my mind. As is his affect on Naomi, and I believe he’s have the same affect on all of us!!
I don’t want to go into more because I’m so tempted to go and on about the ending and spoil it for anyone.. I loved the way it ended.
S0 instead, I’ll just give you the Blurb, and direct you to Gena’s site for an excerpt!!
Unleashing your inner tigress isn’t easy when you’re a doormat by nature! Still, after escaping a wretched marriage to a cheating SOB, Dallas party planner Naomi Delacroix isn’t about to let another man sweet-talk her into sheathing her protective claws. Not even hunky millionaire Royce Powell, who’s hired her to arrange his mother’s surprise party. Even if he does make her purr like a kitten with one heated glance . . .
Royce claims he’s been in love with her ever since she threw a party for one of his friends a year ago. But if that’s true, why is this incredibly eligible CEO currently taking applications for a wife? Despite herself, Naomi is tempted to fill one out. But can her inner tigress believe a man might change his stripes?

Well, damn it, I know what i’m buying tonight at Chapters!
And I’m not even near done that stack on my night table!
Damn you Sasha for convincing me to buy it!
Damn you Gena for writing such a great book…again!!!
I personally steer well clear if I know beforehand that a book’s written in 1st person pov; I really don’t get along with being stuck inside one person’s head all the time. That’s not to say it doesn’t take a lot of skill to write them, I just don’t enjoy them… unless they’re written by Nikki French. I’m sure there are more authors that I’d enjoy in 1st person pov but y’know, in general…
Vivi! Pick it up for sure.!
Sharon, I’m very disappointed to hear that. :crying:
I write in both third and first, whatever works for that particular tory and I hate the thought that you, or anyone, would dismiss a story just for that reason. I do firmly believe some stories are far better in first, and I think you’d be surprised at how well some of them are done.
Especially if you read ONE author that does first. Why wouldn’t you at least give others a chance by reading an excerpt or the first couple pages when you see it on the shelf?
Sasha, I’m reading it now and I absolutely love it. The whole inner tigress thing is a riot.
Sharon, sorry to hear you aren’t a fan of 1st person. I’m a reader, not a writer, and I love all pov’s. I think AI was done extremely well.
Stacy~ Isn;t it Great? I laughed out loud, and man…parts of it seemed to really strike a chord. It’s an excellent story.
