I just finished reading RED, by Jordan Summers. Being a regular reader of Jordan’s blog means I’ve heard much about this book before hand. Also being friends with her meant I wanted it to be everything she hoped it was. And well, it was.
I’m not going to rant and gush, because honestly, there was no surprise to this for me. I’m not going to go OMG! I love love love it. Because I expected a lot from Jordan, and I got exactly what I expected. A great story with depth, plot and romance – not to mention fantastic world building and characters I want to know more about. Does that mean I didn’t love it? Not at all. I did love it! But I’m not surprised I loved it. 😉
RED is the start of a new series, the Dead World series. It’s called a paranormal romance, but in my mind it’s more of a genre crossing futuristic. But no matter what genre you think it is, it’s a great story. Morgan, the sheriff of a small boundary town, is totally sexy, and I look forward to drooling over him in the next couple of books. I didn’t connect with Gina, the heroine, as much as I’d like to, but I think that’s because of who she is, and I expect it to change as the stories continue. By that I mean, at the start of the book, Gina herself seems a bit disconnected…from herself and from others. I think it’s her coping mechanism. She’s the only female on an elite tactical force, and her family is all dead, except a grandfather – who is the commander of said Tactical Force. Her best friend is her nav-com unit, and she doesn’t play well with the other tactical team members. By the end of the story, she’s a much more human person, and I think it’s because she’s finally making human connections that matter to her. So I expect to see a more human and emotional side of her in the next story to help balance out the soldier she is.
To me, this is the sort of character growth that makes a series so awesome. Some things need to happen over time, and that makes them all the better. I’m eager for Scarlet, the next book in this series, and will be picking it up as soon as it hits stores.
So… if you’ve not picked up RED yet, and gotten started on this series, I highly suggest you do. ANd to that end, I’m giving away one copy of RED. All you have to do is post in the comments here, and I’ll post a random winner and on Monday.

I, too, am hearing great things about Red all over the web. Gonna have to add it to my TBR list.
Would love to get a copy, sounds like my kind of read!
I have to be in on this. I love the cover of Red so much.
Jordan, you are very welcome! I loved the story, and am happy to help get others hooked. *grin*
All of you that are hearing things about this book, and haven’t gotten it yet, you’re missing out. So if you don’t win, I expect you to hunt it down. *grin*
RED has action, adventure, tinges of horror, and some yummy steaminess to it to as well. I can’t wait for Scarlet to see Morgan and Red together again!
Some characters and their stories can’t be contained in just one book. They just evolve and grow. You just don’t want to let them go. Little Red Riding Hood was always my favorite fairy tale.
oooh i have been staring at this book like a kid in a candy store. I cant wait to get my hands on it. I do so hope i win it 🙂 or maybe santa will bring it.
This sounds like such an interesting premise! Thanks for the contest, Sasha 🙂
