So the girls at work are starting to read my books. Yes, I’ve been working with them for a couple of years, and they’ve known the whole time that I write, and what I write, but they’ve never had any interest. One girl has read one before. Somehow, they got to talking, and now 5 or 6 of them have gotten into them. BOUND has been passed around, and everyone loves Joe. They want more Joe. They don’t seem to like karl at all, and I don’t get it. I liked Karl when I wrote Bound, even though he wasn’t the hero. In my mind he was sexy.
One of them has read MY PREROGATIVE, and another is just starting it. The one who read it loved it, and asked if I’d been reading her diary as research. LOL What can I say, bartenders who feel and act like Kelsey are not few.
My point to this is that Bound is a bit of a BDSM story. Katie has fantasies of being dominated, and Joe is very willing and adept at making those fantasies come true. And I’m finding it quite amusing how many of my co-workers are enjoying it, and asking for more. To understand my amusement I should state that most bars I’ve worked at, sex has always been a huge topic of conversation with us. We’ve all talked very openly about experiences and fantasies and everything you can pretty much imagine. But this place that I work at now…not at all. Seriously, I work with a dozen or so guys and girls and they never talk about sex. They talk about dating, and they talk about school (university) and money, but rarely sex. And never to the degree that I’m used to.
In fact, when the subject of me writing erotica comes up, most of them either giggle and blush, or they ignore the topic completely. So their reactions to my stories have amused me. I think I work with a bunch of closet kinks. 😉
ROFL!
I think you do too! That is great! Maybe they will discover more about themselves!
It’s why I love reading 😀
Just have to speak up for Karl. I liked him in Bound, but fell in love with him in Wicked. I think he is my favorite Sasha White hero.
I can’t imagine talking about sex with coworkers – I think we like to pretend it doesn’t exist. 😯
I love Karl, especially in “Wicked”.
My co-workers hardly ever discuss
sex. When they do, it is usually in
the context of a joke, as someone’s
expense. Though, with the sexual harrasement laws in the states it is very much frowned upon.
I agree, Natasha. In fact, I think it surprised them that they enjoyed the book so much.
Jennifer, I ‘m right there with you. I’ve always loved Karl. Then again maybe I had some inside information. I’m glad to hear that you saw something there as well. So is Karl. 😉
As for talking about sex with co-workers. This is the first bar/restaurant I’ve worked in where sex isn’t a constant topic of conversation. LOL
Karl loves you too. 😎
Jokes are always good, Debbie. And I agree that sexual harassment might have a lot to do with it in most workplaces. In my mind, bars and such are a different animal though. I seriously think it’s just because most of my co-workers at the particular place are very focused on education and the future. They party, but no where near what most in this industry do. Which is maybe why I fit in better now as I am getting older. 🙄
I think you must!!!
That’s amazing – sex is a huge topic of conversation at my work and I don’t work in a bar…LOL
Well for the record I love Karl!!!
I lovedlovedloved Karl more so than Joe! (shhh)
One day my brother was at work and he was talking to his waitresses and he goes “Yeah, my sister writes porn.” (me rolling my eyes as he tells me story) “What?” “Porn. P-o-r-n. Porn.” I myself am impressed in any conversation that has him spelling anything…correctly is just a bonus.
My favourite though is when my mom read me. Ahh that was great.
LOL @ Jenna’s brother. There might be a few other words in the porn dictionary he could spell. LOL Isn’t family support great?
