So, I didn’t get everything done last week that I set out do do with my list, but I got enough of it going that I’m not going to beat myself up about it. I think not beating yourself up is a huge key to success. Yes, we all need to be self-aware and critical in order to do the best we can and to keep on improving (at whatever it is you’re working on ) but there’s a fine line between critiquing yourself for improvement, and beating up on yourself.
This is a big thing for me, both in writing and in health endeavors. I admit my main priority right now is health, even though I’m beyond behind in my writing commitments. The problem is that my health starts it’s downward path when I began writing. Then when I quit work to write full time, it gained speed on that downward run. Since I decided to let my health take precedence I’ve tried so many things, but nothing has really worked. This is because I know its base is in emotions. Easy to know, not so easy to deal with. However, I’m 41 years old, and I weigh 300 pounds. I shake my head and wonder how I got here, and at the same time I know exactly how I got here. Just like I know exactly how to fix it.
Knowing is NOT as easy as doing.
I’ve debated a lot about if I should share this struggle on my blog or not. It is very personal, but at the same time, it’s main focus so if I don’t talk about it, then my blog will start to lag again, and keeping up with it is one of my goals. So, I’m sharing….some. And I hope you’ll share with me as well.
I tried joining Weight Watchers, online. Not so much for food and recipes and such, but for community. I know what I need to do. We all do . There is no magic pill that ‘s going to make up fit and healthy. It takes work. Eat better, be more active, and your body will react positively. But it’s not easy, and if you can share, if you can give and receive support and feel less alone, then it becomes easier.
I found the message boards very superficial. Lots of people posting goals and results, and cheering each there on, but no one really talking. So, I’m hoping to start something here. If you’re interested in becoming part of acommunity of readers/wrters who are facing health issues of any sort, just say Hi in the comments. If there’s some interest I’ll start a room/thread on my poor unused messageboard for us.
Otherwise I’ll just continue to blab on her by myself every now and then. 🙂
I managed to o everything on Last weeks TO DO list except the writing goals. SO this week I’m goignot work on making the other stuff HABIT, and get that writing done.
SO..
***eat breakfast every day (I’ve been having smoothies made from scratch…very good)
***exercise 3 times this week
***Finish short story.
and hopefully, start new proposal.
What about you? Goals for the week? Interested in joining the messageboards and sharing health goals, ups & downs, recipes?
UPDATE:
I created a room on my messageboard called THE BEST YOU, and I hope to see you there. Please feel free to start your own thread/topic, with your Name or Journey. Post your goals/hopes, treat it like an open journal where we can alldrop in and visit you, encourage or sympathize.
I’ll be starting my own later today.

I’ve been doing Weight Watchers for over a two years now. In the beginning it worked really well for me. I liked the online points tracking, but I never used the message boards. I changed jobs and now eat out lunches about 3 times a week with little say in the places we pick up lunch from. I find this has added back some of the weight I lost. I eat worse other times because these lunches ruin the week for me. I’ve been able to maintain my weight the last few months for the most part, but I still can’t manage to lose the 15 pounds that I want to lose. I try to motivate myself to exercise. It always fizzle out a few days in. I’ve even tried bribing myself with books if I stick to exercising routine. I get too tired and too much other stuff going on to exercise on any kind of a regular basis.
I would be interested in a message board for health goals and the ups and downs. My sister and I used to help each other stay on track. However, since she’s gotten married it’s been harder to keep that kind of support.

  2. I’m not sure if you are interested or not… BUT Ashley Marsh has set up something, starts July 5 end Jan 5. She’s running Romance Biggest Winner (based off the Biggest Loser). And basically it’s for moral support and whatnot.
    Take a look:

I’m participating, because I need the kick in the butt to make some changes health-wise too.
    Good luck Sasha! 😀

I would be interested in message board for sharing health goals and the ups and downs and even some recipes. In 2009 I lost 50 pounds, but last year I put on 25 to 30 of it. I have never tried Weight Watchers or any other diet program. It is hard for me to limit the portion size of my meals. I do think that it helps one to stay on track if a friend is doing it to, because then you have each other for the support to stay on track.
What kind of smoothies have you made? I have been thinking about trying to make some from scratch, but haven’t tried yet.

  4. Oddly, being pregnant has forced me to be diligent daily about my habits; if I eat the wrong thing or skip a walk or yoga, I pay for it immediately. And now it’s ingrained. I eat at the right times, I walk or do yoga or both, and I intend to keep that up because I feel so much better and I’m hoping it’ll help me get back to pre-pregnancy shape quickly. So yeah, I’ll be starting my weight loss plan in a week or less. 😆

  5. Stephanie, Congrats on the previous weight loss. I know what it’s like. I’ve been up and down in this way before as well. Never as large, or as out of shape as I am now though.
Please pay special attention to what I said above about not beating ourselves up. So you’ve regained a bit. So what? As long as you don’t give up, you’re heading in the right direction.
Hope to see you on the messageboard.

  6. Natasha, I love her idea of the teams and such, and was ready to join until I saw that I’d have to pay $100 and donate 5 books, and after spending so much freaking money on various weight loss groups and such, I’m just not interested in spending a penny more.
