It’s funny to me how many people are out there that want to be writers, yet, they’ve never actually tried to write. It seems like every time I meet someone new, and they learn that I’m a writer, they say “I’ve always wanted to write.” or something similar. My response is always the same….. “What’s stopping you?”
Seriously. If you want to write, the do it. Don’t overanalyze it or let any “rules” get in your way. Don’t think too hard, don’t worry about having enough plot, or too much plot, or how to develop characters, or how to sell it, or what to do with it once you’re done writing it, bog your mind down. Those are what I call creativity killers. Those types of thoughts not only kill your creativity, they’re truly moot until you actually have some words down. So just plant your ass in the chair, and write. Once your story (or article, or essay or whatever) is done, Â sit back, congratulate yourself on writing it, then you take a deeper look at it and start thinking about how to make it better.
The difference between this
and this…
is this….
So, if you want to be a writer, then be one. Plant your ass in the chair, open your mind, Â and your heart, and let your creativity flow. Do the work, and you’re a writer, even if you never show another soul your work.
Well said…my friend. Some write for money. Some for notoriety. Some just to connect. And still others…solely for themselves. The thing is…to simply write.
