Hi! I’m Charlene Teglia and today I get to party on Sasha’s blog. Ooo, fun! Speaking of fun, I think romance should be. I love writing about couples who have fun together, laugh together, help each other lighten up. A sense of humor is soooo sexy.
My excerpt today features a couple who have a lot of fun falling in love. Tell me about your favorite fun romance and you could win a download of Love and Rockets! And I could add to my Books To Buy list. : D

Falling in love isn’t rocket science…it’s a whole lot more complicated.
Excerpt:
“Don’t be afraid of me.”
The earnest tone was a surprise to her. Almost as much of a surprise as his suddenly serious expression.
“I’m not afraid,” Anna replied. “I’m not sure about this. I think you’re going too fast.”
Jay didn’t think he was going nearly fast enough. She had to know what she was doing to him. She’d tied him up in sweet knots with her first look across a crowded room. She’d stood close enough to burn him with her heat and verbally sparred with him in a spicy exchange that only made him hungry for more.
After she’d bitten his earlobe and moaned, “More. Deeper. I want you now, Jay,” she could tell him he was going too fast? He didn’t think so.
And then there was that kiss.
He burned just thinking about it, her honeyed lips and the incredible womanly softness even a lab coat couldn’t hide. He’d felt it against him when she danced with him and he’d felt it under him when he kissed her on her desk.
It wasn’t enough. He ached to touch her. He held her still with his firm grip on her hands and moved his foot sensuously against her knees.
“Nobody can see,” he said with warm persuasion. “We’re just another business couple having lunch. Nothing unusual about that. We’re perfectly ordinary. Except for your lab coat, that does kind of stick out.” The teasing note at the end failed to coax a smile from her.
Jay kept slowly stroking her legs with his foot. “Come on, beautiful. Relax. I’m only going to touch you with my toes.”
Anna met his eyes steadily while she considered his suggestion. He was right, nobody could see anything under their table. Even if the room had been crowded, they were at the wrong angle in their corner for visibility. Added to that, the draping tablecloths would have hidden a lot more than a game of footsies.
The real question was, did she want him to go any further?
She wasn’t sure. The light patterns his foot drew on her thighs felt good. Warm and pleasurable. She could carry the test a little further and see if she continued to enjoy it. If she didn’t, she could stop him at any time, heels or no heels.
Anna made a decision and parted her knees to let his wayward foot slide further.
He didn’t rush. He made his slow, steady way to the junction of her thighs and nestled there, very gently but firmly. He settled his foot snugly against her.
It felt warm, Anna decided. Warm and welcome. The gentle pressure he created as he slowly shifted the length of his foot against her gradually recreated the same tingling sensation his velvet tongue sliding over and around hers had. And the same heated hunger for more.
When he slowly withdrew his foot, she immediately missed the pressure and the warmth.
Jay smiled at her. “I think I found an erogenous zone you like.”
“You think so?”
“Oh, yes. But I really think you ought to keep an open mind about hands and feet,” he answered solemnly. Then he gestured at her to eat but kept one of her hands trapped in his while they continued with the meal.
As if to prove his point, he traced circles and lines all over the sensitive surface of her palm, fingers and wrist, which produced the same phenomena of raised body temperature, increased heart rate and loss of time-sense as his hot, deep kisses.
Anna concluded that the mouthy playboy wasn’t all talk. He was, in fact, an expert. He probably knew erogenous zones and erotic techniques, what a g-spot was and how to find hers.
He was a gold mine of knowledge and practical experience of the very hands-on variety and if anyone could bring her up to speed, he could.
Anna polished off her salad in a fog of sensual anticipation.
She wanted to make up for lost time. Lost play. Lost experiences. She wanted to try everything and do the fun things twice. She didn’t want to grow old regretting all the chances never taken, all the hours not fully lived.
She didn’t want to look back at this moment and wonder what would have happened next, if only.
If only she’d dared. If only she’d boldly asked for what she wanted.
And right now, she wanted to find out what would happen if he played with every inch of her body the way he was playing with her hand.
She wanted to know what else they could try with food.
She wanted to know what it would feel like if he kept teasing her with his toes.
She wanted to know if she could do the same to him and if he’d like it.
She wanted him.
So this was what desire felt like, Anna acknowledged silently. Maybe she was getting a late start but better late than never. She’d always been a good student and a quick study. She’d pick it up. Starting right now.
Anna drank some ice water to wash down the last of her salad, took a deep breath and asked, “Have you had a blood test and do you have a copy of your sexual history?”
She regretted the directness of her question when he nearly choked to death on a french fry.
Ha! I probably should’ve said something in the intro like “I write for Ellora’s Cave”, etc. 🙄 All my brain cells are going into the book right now, that’s my excuse.
I hope this guy’s at the bar tonight, too. Yum! Of course he’d laugh at all my jokes!
SWAK,
Lucinda
Great excerpt, Charli! I have heard great things about Love and Rockets.
For humorous books:
I have mentioned Outlander by Diana Gabaldon for favorite book hero in a previous party post. Will have to say that it springs to mind regarding humor for me as well. The scene with Jaimie and Claire consumating the marriage and various other flashes of humor had me laughing out loud.
Two of my comfort humor reads are:
Bewitching by Jill Barnett
Truly, Madly, Viking by Sandra Hill
I have that Jill Barnett book! It’s hilarious. Carried Away is another good one.
Lucinda, I’m sure Jay would laugh at all your jokes. 😆 That’s so important in a man.
Currently? It’s JR Ward’s Lover Eternal.
Great excerpt, Charli!
Great excerpt, Charli!! I suck at writing humour, but I love reading it. I think I’d have to also re-mention It Had To Be Yu by SEP. There’s definite humor among the hotness. :great:
I thought that exerpt was great. My favourite romance was Linda Howard’s Mackenzie’s Mountain (about Wolf and Mary)..the first of her Mackenzie series. Their love story was wonderful.
I have to put this book on my to buy list. Lori Foster’s Never Too Much was the book I thought was great romance. The hero protected the heroine…and of course the hot sex., lol.
Love and Rockets definitely rocks! I have to agree with Deborah regarding Lori Foster but I loved her Winston Brothers (re-printed recently with all 3 brothers and cousin ‘s stories in one book). All of their stories were to die for…
Oh, yeah, the Winston brothers. Yummy. Lori Foster writes a great mix of sex and humor! And thanks, I’m glady you enjoyed Love and Rockets.
A recent humorous read I can recommend is The Dairy Queen
by Allison Rushby. Thanks for the excerpt. I enjoyed it.
Any book by Jennifer Crusie. Great excerpt!
Thanks Cherie! I’ll have to check out The Dairy Queen, interesting title.
Amy, Crusie’s books are fun!
I think Dakota Cassidy writes some of the hottest FUNNIEST books that I’ve read in a long long time *g* I pick those ones when I want steamy and funny in the same story.
The word fun romance made me remember the very first romance that made me burst into involuntary laughter so many years ago (I still have that book) but my recommendation for today is Julia Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me. It has a perfect combination of humour and romance.
Erin, I’ve never tried any of Dakota’s books. Maybe I should! I love the combination of hot and funny.
Jenny, Julia Quinn does humor well. One of my favorites by her is Dancing at Midnight.
