heroes I have known By Stephanie Tyler

heroes I have known By Stephanie Tyler

Hi Everyone!! Happy to be here for the blog party, and thanks to Sasha for inviting me! 😀

This has been an exciting year for me in terms of writing. My first Harlequin Blaze, newly titled, Coming Undone, comes out in Spring 2007. I also write Paranormal Erotica Romance with co-author Larissa Ione — we write under the pen name Sydney Croft and our trilogy will be published by Bantam Dell, dates tba.

Anyway, enough about me. Mainly because I’ve got a Navy SEAL named Jake peering over my shoulder telling me that no one wants to hear about me, but he’s under the impression everyone wants to hear about him. He heard the words party and Sasha and blog and figured he’d plead his case here and frankly, I’m too tired to argue with him.

So you can read what he had me write up for him, and then you can tell me who your all-time favorite hero is — he can be from a book or TV or a movie — and why he does it for you. You’ve got until this blog party ends to post a comment and I’ll pick the winners at random. 3 of you. The prizes? You’ll each get one of the romance books that made me fall in love with romance and shaped the way I write my own romance heroes — Lucky’s Lady by Tami Hoag, Kiss and Tell by Cherry Adair and Over The Edge by Suzanne Brockmann. And if you win a book you’ve already read, we can negotiate on another favorite of mine. Because it’s always all about the hero and getting what we want, isn’t it? 😉

*looks over shoulder* No, Jake, I’m not telling them you’re my favorite hero.

Name: Jake Hansen

Profession: Navy SEAL

Likes: Fast cars, HALO Jumps, Demolition, guns, taking out Tangos. And sex. Did I mention that?

Specialty:
Professional — Classified
Personal: Do you really need to ask?

Favorite SEAL motto: Don’t bother running — you’ll just die tired.

Personal Motto: It’s much easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, and I don’t plan on asking for either.

Needs: His own book. And sex. Lots of sex.

Issues: An author who claims she can’t find a heroine who can handle me. And who keeps trying to make me fall in love.

Plan of Attack:
-will make sure my author gets no sleep until my story is written
-will begin stealing author’s own heroines, including that hot one she’s currently writing with Larissa.
-will steal other writers heroines on a more regular basis if necessary. Or readers. Or other authors. No one is safe. Party on. 😎

*sighs* Steph here. I’m in bigger trouble than I thought. 😯

ah, Jake is my kind of hero, great in and out of a uniform! This sounds good! Too would love to see your site so I can watch for your other books both blaze and your erotic ones Step. Ah I love those books you mentioned! Too loved AFTER THE NIGHT with Grey in Linda Howard’s books (you can’t go wrong with hers to find a hot tortured hero). Too i’d recommend LONE RIDER by Lauren Bach, that book was just wow. I love hot heros, tough ones, but its gotta be hot, LOL

  2. Ahhh Jake, I so feel your pain, buddy.

Or should I say, some of my heroes do. Tav lived like a wolf for YEARS before he went human again and got any. Poor Marc had to wait the book equivalent of eighteen years to get any. And Myles… oh man, things don’t look good for poor Myles.

Good luck, dude. Maybe I’ll post a few heated excerpts for you… a couple of pictures of the Montgomery women…

  3. Well, he went by two names in his duo persona, but the hero of A Rose In Winter by Kathleen Woodiweiss remains one of my all-time favorites! I mean, hot guy goes around all masked and caped pretending to be a cripple so he can get his revenge AND the girl, how cool is that? :attack:

  4. Cathie. Steph is Stephanie Tyler, a link to her blog (Under FUN) and site is on my sidebar! She’s one of my all time fave authors!

Look out Jake, JJ’s gonna show you some women.

    Charli~ I’ve never red a Kathleen Woodiwiess book. 😳

  5. Hi Cathie!! Guess maybe I should’ve put my name somewhere in the post – do you see what Jake does to me?! And I love that Linda Howard one too – and I just read my first Lauren Back a few weeks back – but not that one! yay for reading lists! And for tortured heroes…:great:

Charlene – I’ve never read that one either – sounds awesome!

  6. Pam P.

Jake, never mind those Montgomery women, here’s a willing reader, come get me! LOL (sorry, JJ, but he sounds hot, too).

One of my all-time favorite heros is Derek Craven (Dreaming of You by LIsa Kleypas), scrabbled from an orphan on the street with nothing to wealth and acceptance of a sort by society, kept his hard edge and bad boy image as a gambling club owner and couldn’t be fooled, though he did occasionally do some good deeds unbeknown to anyone. A tortured hero who still feels himself unworthy despite what he’s achieved, until he meet that right one – still thinks he’s not good enough for her but finally decides the hell with it, she makes me want more and wants me, so she’s stuck with me now.

  7. Pam, no worries, After all, the Montgomery women have men already. LOL Still, there are a few women who haven’t got a man yet — so if you don’t keep Jake, maybe he’ll get lucky. (Have a safe trip!)

Jake, I just hate to show you what you can’t have… still, a little vicarious relief can’t hurt, can it? And who knows, maybe will feel inspired to write you a one-night-stand or something… :light:

  8. Little Lamb Lost

Had just been thinking about this topic fairly recently. Their are so many but in book form: Jaimie of Outlander: there is something about a luscious hero whom makes love with “unbridled joy”.

In tv: I was a MacGyver fan growing up and would love to have someone that capable. Imagine all that intelligence and efficiency focused on happenings behind closed doors.

In movie form: hmmm….haven’t seen many movies.

Would sincerely love to meet Jake.

  9. Jenny

All time favourite hero is Mark Darcy in the Bridget Jones’s Diary movies. He’s such an ideal man. Who can help loving an intelligent, compassionate, honourable and faithful hero who loves the heroine as she is, even when she embarrasses him constantly?

  10. Robyn

From TV it has to be David James Elliott from the show JAG; that man in uniform is something else and out of uniform, well I can only imagine!!! hehehe. He is so very kind, sexy and compassionate and yet he does his job.

  11. Steph T.

Little Lamb Lost – I just bought Outlander – good to know it lives up to what I’ve heard about it!! And be careful what you wish for, because Jake’s taking notes. Really.

Jenny – he’s not my usual type of hero but I agree with you on that – there’s something so disarming about him. Because he’s not a pushover, and I think that really makes his character, you know?

Yes – Robyn – I watch JAG reruns every morning!!! JJ – it is Harm!!!

  12. Steph T.

JJ – you’re supposed to be helping me convince him that he needs to fall in love…and that excerpt is not helping. Well, I mean it’s helping something, because Jake says he’s on the way to your house…but he’s going to be the death of me.

  13. No, see… I’m trying to show him how special it can be when you’re in love…

Well, I’m glad I could aid in Jake’s personal growth, anyway.

I know he’s a Navy SEAL and all, but it’s going to take him a while to get to my place…I’m sure he’ll have lost interest by the time he gets here.

  14. 😉 thinking of a bonnie tyler song,, holding out for a hero ‘

braveheart,. know a true story that got embellsihed, but anwys , love he wouldnt fight cause he loved his woman, but she was killed and he went to war for her.

rob roy , little differnt but hey he still wore a skirt and showed off his legs.

those that fight foir hearth and home , family

    then there is the movie, the notebook, i cry at it everytime i watch { i know im to butch to cry}
but if he aint a hero to her, i dont know what is, standing by her side

  15. I remember OUTLANDER! I have the series all the way except the last one.

That Jamie was a great Hero!! Him and Jake would probably get along wonderfully. Actually, that’s sort of a scary thought. 😯

  16. Steph T.

May – there’s a hero over here I’ve never seen, hanging out with Jake and the crew who’ve taken over my house, mumbling, I’m WAY too young to get married. You might have to come drag both him and Jake out of here…

ROFL @ Tami’s question – and Sasha’s answer. And OH YEAH at Braveheart. *sigh*

Charlene – I’m going to look for that one and the other Woodwiss one people rave about – except I can’t remember the name now…and yes, Jake is going to pay. I just have to figure out how, exactly, to make that happen.

Jake sounds like the kind of hero I like to read about. My recent pick for a hero would be Gator Fontenot from Night Game by Christine Feehan.

  18. Charlene — I soooooooo agree with you about A Rose in Winter, that and The Wolf and the Dove were some of my early favorites. I still have them on my bookshelves, too! :inlove:

Jake — Your rundown looks good and scrumptious, but what about actual looks? My current favorite is a former SEAL named Mike Harmon (Paladin of Shadows series of John Ringo: Ghost, Kildar, Choosers of the Slain, Unto the Breach). :great: Why him? Because he’s a bad guy who knows he has all these “forbidden” tastes but tries to do good. How do you stack up?

Re favorite TV hero, currently it’s Gibbs (NCIS) because, damn, all that competence is sexy.

Question for Jake: what are your preferences in women? Particularly, women’s voices? See, I have this post about men’s voices (which will go up soon) but I hadn’t thought about it from a guy’s perspective.

  19. Cherie J

Oops! I just realized that in my earlier post I did not put why i like Gator Fontenot . It is because he is a tough but sexy warrior and yet has a sensitive side. I am a sucker for that kind of character.

  20. Steph T.

    Hi Kathleen –

Since Jake is currently unavailable – and for all I know he might be with you – I can tell you that he stacks up very well – he’s a very tortured character with forbidden tastes. And he can be good, but he just prefers being bad. Usually, it’s very bad. *g*

As for voices, he’d probably say he’ll take any female voice whispering dirty things in his ear. 😈

and same here, Cherie. It’s especially hot when they’re SO tough on the outside.

  21. Stepahie honey, have you seen what Jake’s been up to? Check out the comments in the blog for “Another Partier!!” Did you know he could do those things to sandal straps with his tongue? Mmm.

Honey, I’m the last gal to steal another gal’s guy, but if you don’t keep him busy, I might have to.

  22. Steph T.

    Jake is very….talented.

*sighs* He’s killing me. Kept whispering plot possibilities in my ear all last night. Get him drunk tonight and maybe he’ll let me sleep…
