The dentist was HELL, and I have to go back on Thursday for one more visit. But, other than that I had a good day. Scrapped 8 pages of my WIP that I thought were crap, and restarted from scratch. Now I have 2 pages that I feel comfortable with. π Had a couple of friends over for a girl’s chat, and we ordered chinese food. Now my fridge is full as they left all theleftovers here. π
Conversation with the girls ranged from celebrity gossip.(Is Demi Moore pregnant with Ashton’s child???) to defining moments in our lives. (First one was when I left home at 17) I also learned an embarassing secret about one of my friends that I think I’ll have to work into a story one day soon! π
In other news: Todays excerpt from GYPSY HEART actually takes place just before the one I posted yesterday, but I had to put it up so you all could see inside Gage’s head for a few mintues before we go any further.
GYPSY HEART
excerpt
Gage joined the group at the pool tables. There was no reason for him to stand at the bar and flirt with the enticing bartender. He reminded himself he’d turned over a new leaf. No more casual relationships or party girls, he wanted to find himself a nice girl to settle down with. Besides he was at the bar to help his little brother celebrate his twenty-fifth birthday, not to hook up with a woman.
“How’s it feel, bro?”Β he asked, slinging his arm around Garret’s shoulders. “To know that you’re officially a quarter of a century old?”Β
“Feels pretty damn good to me! Especially since I know that no matter how old I get, you’ll always be older, slower and uglier!”Β
That got a round of guffaws from the group. With dark hair and dark eyes neither man had to chase women to get dates, but Garret was definitely the “Λpretty boy’ version to Gage’s rough good looks.
Gage smirked. “At least you recognize the fact that I’ll always be smarter.”Β
Garret laughed and choked on the swig of beer he’d just taken, causing Gage to add, “and more graceful.”Β
The jokes stopped for a few minutes while the guys figured out who was playing first. Gage knew most of the men in their group, a combination of Garret’s friends from school and his summer job working the rap attack crews.
In fact, he’d trained some of them up in Hinton, a small city smack in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, when they’d first joined the forestry brigade, and he knew they worked hard rappelling out of helicopters into the mountains to fight forest fires. Full of piss and vigor, they played as hard as they worked.
An almost parental pride swelled in his chest when he looked at Garret. The first few years after their father had passed away had been hard on them both, but they’d made it through the toughest of times, and he deserved to party it up on his birthday. He’d become a man that Gage was proud of, one that their father would’ve been proud of too.
Shaking off his melancholy thoughts, he joined in the coarse banter as the balls were racked and the tournament got started. He tried to focus on the game but his mind, and his gaze, kept wandering back to the bar, and the fetching woman behind it.
Her curves were generous in all the right places and she wasn’t shy about showing them off. Dressed in a thin top that clung to fantastic tits and a pair of tight jeans that drew his gaze to a butt that begged to be spanked, she was definitely sexy.
“Wipe your chin, big brother, you’re starting to drool.”Β
Gage pulled his gaze away from the lady and shrugged. “I’m just enjoying the scenery. No big deal.”Β
Garret flashed him a knowing smirk. “If by enjoying the scenery you mean eyeing her like a hungry man eyes a prime rib dinner you’re right. That’s what you’re doing.”Β
Gage ignored him and watched their opponent sink another shot on the pool table. It shouldn’t bother him that he couldn’t keep his eyes off the sassy bartender, but it did.
There’d been a time when he wouldn’t even consider walking away from a woman like that. A time when he’d only been interested in casual relationships and good times. But things changed.
He’d shifted career tracks, with an eye towards settling down, and bought a fantastic old house in need of some tender loving care. Now he just needed a good woman that shared his vision of the future to round out the picture. Not a night of bedroom acrobatics with some good time girl he met in a bar.
The only problem with that theory was the nice girls he’d been dating for the past six months were really boring.
“Gage,”Β Garret shouted at him from across the table. “It’s your turn, man. I set it up for you, all you have to do now is clear the table.”Β
He fixed his eyes on the pool table, actually seeing it this time. There were three balls left, all lined up perfectly. Six ball in the corner pocket, bring it back for the four ball in the side, and then on to the eight in the corner. Easy.
He bent over the table and lined up his shot. The guys around him jeered at him, trying to throw him off. Pulling back his hand, he let it go, effortlessly sending the six to the corner. Straightening up, he glanced over his shoulder, and saw the woman herself watching him.
Had she been checking out his ass?
He could see an embarrassed flush bloom in her cheeks from where he was. But that didn’t stop a naughty smile from spreading across her luscious lips as she wiggled her fingers at him.
He shook his head and fought back a grin. He tried to concentrate on the game as he walked around the table, but it was tough. Bending forward, he lined up the cue carefully before smoothly taking the shot. And watched as the four ball sailed into the cushion, not even coming close to the pocket.
The boys hooted at him, jeering at him for missing such an easy shot. How the hell did he miss that?
He glanced at the bar again. Easily. He’d been distracted by the image of those full red lips wrapped around his dick.
With a shake of his head he chuckled. Was it truly that surprising she distracted him? After all, he’d always had a soft spot for bad girls . . .or a hard-on. Depending on how you looked at it.
He picked up his beer bottle and drained the last bit before moving towards the bar. What the hell? What could a little flirting hurt?
Sighs wistfully. I think I am in love with Gage. He is a good girl’s wicked dream. I live with one of those.
Yum!
~grin~
Oh my, sounds like you have met my step son, ~LOL~, but according to him they land the heli, not repell out, but it does make for better hero material.
:)I went on a field trip with one of my kids to rap attack…and they did a repelling demo for us, they can’t always land the heli in the mountains.
Gage sounds like my kinda hero. Congrats on The Devil Inside ‘coming soon’ at LSB.
Sarah~ Ohhh, Wait until you read the "shower scene" with Gage. He’s definately a man you caould fall for. π
Shayne~ How old is your step son? π
J/K. In fact, I’m pretty lazy when it comes to real research, so I tend to make my characters have occupations I’m familiar with. Or someone I know My big brother is a forrestry guy. who paid his way through school working the Rap Attack crews. LOL
Dianna~ Gage is my fanatsy man. A bad boy that’s ready to settle down. Thanks for the congrats. I’m workign on adding another love scene to TDI as we type. π
