Perfectly erotic.

Perfectly erotic.

Because of what I write, I often find myself in the middle of a conversation about the differences between romance, erotica, and pornography. One thing I always hope will help people make sense of the lines between these things is art. For some reason, when it comes to writing, people have a hard time understanding that erotic does not always mean pornographic, but they don’t have that problem with movies, paintings, or even photographs. When I saw the image below on Pinterest my first thought was, Now there’s the perfect example of something that is erotic, but not pornographic.

What’s the picture of? A Lime. Not something I’d really consider erotic in and of itself…but this image, hell yeah, it’s erotic-and in no way pornographic.
Do you agree? Or do you think it’s pornographic?

  1. I love this picture! To me, it’s erotic through suggestion. My mind automatically swaps the lime for female body parts, like some of Georgia O’Keefe’s oils.
But the whole erotic/pornographic conundrum? *sigh* I think it has more to do with (a) the person’s comfort level with their sexuality and (b) what they find arousing.
