Stop-Loss

Stop-Loss

I went and saw Stop-Loss this weekend. It’s pretty much what you’d expect, and yet so much more. The story is no surprise, not after you watch the trailers ( there is 2 different ones here for you to check out) , but the acting is phenomenal. The idea of the “back door draft” is a crappy one, but it becomes absolutely heartbreaking to see what these soldiers go through, not just when on deployment, but when they get home.

There was a time in my life, years ago, when I worked closely with many ex-military men, and the stories they told were enough to scare me. And to strengthen me, because you soon learn these guys need you to be strong for them. They’ll never tell you that, but you can see it in them.

It’s been a while since I’ve spoken to any of those guys, and after seeing this movie, all I want to do is find them and hold them and thank them.

  1. When I was in the military, DoD had policies in place that prevented back to back deployments like that. Once you’d done your time, you could look forward to a long break, time to chill with the family and get your head straight again.

I feel very, very sorry for troops these days because our government doesn’t care any more about them than they do anything else that can be requisitioned.

I think I’m going to have to watch this movie… I’ve had a few friends and classmates go to Iraq. One’s an army ranger, and he just got back. He’s in TX now, but I’m pretty sure he’s not done yet. 🙁
I couldn’t place Ryan Philippe during the previews until I saw his name. He hasn’t been in anything for a while, has he? :X I was so disappointed when I heard he and Reese split up, and incredulous as to why.

  3. Delilah, if you go to the STOP LOSS website there is a “letter from a stop-lossed soldier”, and he mentioned something about them cutting back on the times between deployments, and things like that. (I saw it before, but I can;t find it now. Maybe it was on the My SPace page? It was a thing with the director, and how she got letters from soldiers and such.)

Limecello _ I”l be honest, I’ve never been a hug fan of Ryan’s, but I wanted to see this movie, and he did an awesome job. The dark haired guy you see flashes of was the one from Third Rock from the Sun, He was in The LOOKOUT, last year too. He also did a fantastic job. ANd I have to say, Channing Tatum was great too. They all did so good, you could just tell the story sort of got them in the heart. As I think it will really get to anyone who sees/watches it.
