Tolerance

Tolerance

I was working in the restaurant last night. Mondays are pretty slow, but I enjoy them because I get to talk to my customers.

Anyway, I sat three people at a table and took their drink order. I thought it was a Mom and her two sons. (Two boys about 15 years old, both dark hair and dark eyes, nice smiles) They were really nice and I joked with them while I took their order. Then I looked down and saw that he boys were holding hands under the table and the way they smiled at one another took on a whole new light.

As I was ringing up their order I couldn’t wipe the smile off my own face. There was no way in hell that something like that would’ve happened when I was a teenager. No way two teenage guys would hold hands and touch each other’s thighs in public, let alone in front of a parent.

It gave me hope that people are getting more understanding and tolerant of individualism. Let’s hope that tolerance grows as fast and furious as prejudice did.
